It always is.

They're toggles/configuration. They turn on and off:
GCPAGSs: garbage collection of pags
hm_retry_RO: hardmount semantics (retry forever) on RO volumes
hm_retry_RW: same for RW volumes
hm_retry_int: interval for hardmount retries

I don't have anything handy, so I will only say "The same way Transarc
